Curriculum for the M.S. in Bilingual Education with a Specialization in Educational Leadership online program is comprised of 11 courses (33 credit hours). Students are required to take six core courses and five specialization courses.

EDBE 5310: History and Philosophy of Bilingual Education
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course focuses on school practices in light of the basic assumptions of philosophy, designed and conducted to stimulate critical thinking and promote equity and excellence for all students within the instructional environment of a bilingual classroom. Pre-requisites: Graduate Standing
EDBE 5322: Bilingual Oral Language Assessment and Development
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course focuses on (1) the nature of language and dialects, (2) language characteristics of Spanish and English, (3) influences of languages on each other, (4) first- and second-language acquisition processes, and (5) general principles for developing language proficiency. Pre-requisites: Graduate Standing
EDBE 5324: Bilingual/Multicultural Teaching Strategies
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course focuses on the philosophy, nature, properties, processes and evaluative instrumentation of selected school content at levels PK-8 in bilingual-multicultural programs. Teaching styles are identified and implemented in the context of various curricular formats. Pre-requisites: Graduate Standing
EDBE 5325: Teaching English as a Second Language
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course focuses on strategies for implementing English as a Second Language Programs in grades PK-12. Emphasis is placed on identification, selection and evaluation of ESL materials and tests; construction and presentation of structured and unstructured techniques to teach ESL; classroom management; relationship between oral and literate skills; and the role of ESL in bilingual programs. Pre-requisites: Graduate Standing
EDBE 5326: Teaching Reading and Language Arts in a Bilingual Setting
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
Strategies for providing developmentally appropriate emergent literacy and holistic instruction will be presented in this course. The selection of appropriate materials and authentic assessment will be included. Pre-requisites: Graduate Standing
EDBE 5390: Special Issues in Bilingual Education
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This advanced level course is designed to encourage practicing to become more critical readers of educational research in bilingual and dual language education. This course introduces concepts, principles, methods, and policies recognized as fundamental to the issues and controversies surrounding the teaching of language minority students in the United States. The course readings reflect recent shifts in policies, programs, and practices due to globalization and the changing economy, demographics trends, and new research on emergent bilingual and biliteracy pedagogy. A requisite for completion of the course is a research plan/project on bilingual biliterate education to present at a Bilingual Education Conference.

This course examines the effective implementation and assessment of curriculum programs in schools. It explores educational policies speciļ¬c to the role of educators as curriculum leaders. This course will examine the structures that need to be in place to allow curriculum developers and leaders to work collaboratively.
EDLD 5312: Ldship Mod for Currclm Leaders
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
The course provides an overview of several paradigms of learning and their relationship to decision-making models. Students will learn to design and evaluate curriculum, develop instructional materials, assess student learning and measure instructional outcomes.
EDLD 5314: Data Inf Dec Mak for Clm Lds
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course is designed to teach a practical, step-by-step approach in learning the complex procedures of the assessment process at the local, state and federal levels. The course will analyze and synthesize various aspects of assessment particularly progress monitoring as applied to the acquisition of knowledge and skills, and the increased consideration of students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in the assessment process. This course examines how students' assessment data drives curriculum implementation.

This course will emphasize the development of communication and collaboration within an organization. Students will have the opportunity to explore and develop strategies that can enhance their ability to effectively and strategically develop a systemic curriculum process

This course will examine leadership strategies to build collaborative relationships with families, communities, and colleagues to develop comprehensive instructional strategies that address the diverse and equitable academic needs of students via ethical curriculum implementation.
