About the course
The Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (CA-SANE) Didactic Course for the State of Texas online short course from TAMIU is designed to provide registered nurses specialized didactic education in the medical forensic care and assessment of patients who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. This fully online course is approved by the Texas Office of the Attorney General and meets the minimum didactic requirements to take the certification exam to become a SANE provider. To qualify for SANE certification, you must have a current and unencumbered nursing license in Texas or a compact state, with at least two years of active practice as an RN within the last five years.
Through self-paced instruction, you will gain in-depth understanding of how to thoughtfully navigate the complexities of sexual violence and the potential psychological and physical impacts for the patient. As you learn every critical step of the sexual assault medical forensic examination process, you will develop the discernment to work collaboratively with the medical care team to appropriately assess, support and advocate for a sexual assault victim. This course provides a focus on the adult population.
