- Develop an understanding of the processes of reading and how students construct meaning from text
- Develop a repertoire of strategies for developing students' emergent literacy skills applicable across content areas
- Develop a repertoire of strategies to address the diverse learning and literacy needs of students using a variety of instructional practices and literacy assessment tools
- Learn to communicate effectively through writing and use writing to facilitate learning by exploring, clarifying and thinking critically about literacy and the application of research–based instructional practices in literacy
