Career Highlights:

Dr. Antonio J. Rodriguez taught basic business courses in economics and finance while earning a master’s and a Ph.D. at the University of Alabama. During his last year in the Ph.D. program, he was selected as the Best Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Economics, Finance, and Legal Studies of the College of Commerce and Business Administration.

Dr. Rodriguez wrote a Ph.D. dissertation on the impact of futures contracts trading in treasury bills on short-term interest rates and was invited to participate as a Ph.D. student and as an assistant professor in futures trading seminars sponsored by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange from 1983 to 1985.

He started his formal academic career at the Flint Campus of the University of Michigan, where he taught primarily Financial Management and Investments from 1984 to 1990. From 1991 to the present, he has taught finance and conducted banking seminars in Central America, South America, Mexico and Europe. In addition, he has coordinated and directed MBA programs delivered by TAMIU in Monterrey, Mexico, and in Taipei, Taiwan.

Dr. Rodriguez has been published in a variety of business journals since 1986 and continues to conduct research primarily in finance. Most recently, he presented and conducted research in accounting and finance.

In addition to teaching finance and delivering seminars for over 30 years, Dr. Rodriguez has served as the Chair of the Division of International Banking and Finance Studies and as an Associate Dean of the A. R. Sanchez, Jr., School of Business for more than 15 years at TAMIU.

    In general, my course is intended for students to practice and apply some of the most fundamental concepts in finance and economics.

    Students should be able to:

    • Identify the fields of study in finance
    • Explain the goals of financial and economic decision-making
    • Define finance, economics, the cost of capital, capital budgeting, capital structure, microeconomics, and macroeconomics
    • Quantify and apply the time value of money, the cost of capital and capital budgeting methodologies
    • Identify and explain economic scarcity, the determinants of demand and supply, aggregate demand and aggregate supply
